Know What the Ideal Time to Book a Mover Is?

As a leading Washington DC moving company, we often get asked: how long before the move should the moving company be hired? The short answer is, it is wise to start calling movers ASAP, particularly if you are thinking to move during the summer season, which is usually the busiest time of the year.

Local move within the same city in summer:

If you are relocating during the summer, reserve your moving company in Washington DC as soon as possible. Preferably, 2 months before your relocation date. Worst case, at least 4 weeks, but know that if you only have a month or less prior to your relocation, you will have a limited option of movers. Most good moving services are reserved 2 to 3 months in advance.

Local move within the same city during the off-season:

If you aren’t relocating during the summer months, you can reserve anywhere from 2-4 weeks prior to your relocation date. Remember, even during the fall, winter, or spring, good moving companies will book up so always strive to give as much notice as feasible.

Move to another city within the same state in summer:

Interstate relocations – relocations that are inside the same state – are less complex compared to out-of-state relocations, so reserving movers ten to twelve weeks prior to your move is adequate. Since there’re lesser movers who’ll move to another city in the same state, you should allow at least 2-3 months, particularly if relocating during the summer.

Move to another city inside the same state off-season:

For an interstate relocation that is not taking place in summer, you can get away with reserving 4-8 weeks prior to the move date with 2 months being the perfect amount of time required.

Interstate move in summer:

An interstate relocation – one that takes your belongings across a state line – is a lot more complicated than interstate relocations, so you must give a minimum of 12 weeks in advance of your move.

Interstate move during the off-season:

Offseason moves that’ll take your belongings across a state border will need a minimum of 8 weeks’ notice. Again, the further you move, the lesser number of movers there is to relocate your possessions.
